Conversational Analysis on Politeness in Online Class Discussions: Exploring Turn-Taking and Relational Work Strategies Between Lecturer and Students

In the teaching-learning process, lecturers usually play role of dominant turn-takers. Meanwhile, students mostly perform as small EFL classrooms, different turn-taking patterns are essential to analyze identify students' language politeness during process. The present study analyzed and relational work concerning in online class discussions. For this study, a conversational analysis was performed on class(es) discussions between lectures. A video recording classroom conversation ELT TEFL employed. found that 16 out 40 quotations displayed Appealing Strategy (AS). strategy Being Cooperative (BC) cited 22 quotes. strategies, BC indicated responses related what lecturer mentioned. Turn-taking strategies could be one tools determine by combining characteristics indicators focus answers when speaking with lecturer. Further investigations gender disparities use maintain lecturer-student dialogues may prove insightful.
